We got up fairly slowly on our first morning in Bali. We had wandered around the nearby streets last night looking for a shop or something to buy some bits, but didn't have much luck. Our villa is set a little bit away from the main drag in amongst houses and complexes where the locals live. This is a good thing, however the price you pay is the convenience of just popping out for a pint of milk. Anyway, we needed to get ourselves set-up for the day and for the week so we popped in to Sanur, which is the beach front area we are staying in. We walked along the beach and found a nice spot for brunch/lunch on a terrace by the beach. I had a concoction of chicken, rice, salad, passion fruit dressing. Stunning. We walked along the beach a bit more and stumbled across the 'Icon Mall', which is a shopping mall - but with a few features that tried to make it in keeping with the Bali theme. For example, on the ground floor they have a 'floating market' of little food stalls selling local food, from kiosks that are 'boats' floating on a water feature (better than it sounds!). There was a lady doing a DJ set pumping house music out to the mall right next to it - a bit of a distance away from the chilled atmosphere of the beach front restaurants etc, but she had a bit of an audience who seemed to be enjoying it. Maybe she was famous. Who knows.
We did a lap of the mall and then headed to a local supermarket. We decided to walk the 15/20 mins, and realised we were the only pedestrians. It appears that people in Bali either taxi it or scooter it (with it being over 30 degrees and the footpaths being a bit all over the place we came to understand why)... either way we arrived and enjoyed mooching around the supermarket (as you do when you're away). We grabbed some supplies for the week and taxied it back to our place. We decided to spend the rest of the day hanging out in the villa, jumping in and out of the pool etc. Though we hadn't seen much of Bali yet, we got the impression we were going to enjoy being here.

The beach.

The mall. With views out to the beach. It sort of looks like a cruise ship.
